When Athenkosi Foloti found herself gripped by panic, she was saved by pure kindness. Two City of Cape Town law enforcement officers came to her aid after her vehicle gave up on her on the busy N2 freeway, refusing to leave her side until they knew she was safe and sound.
Cape Town, South Africa (09 July 2026) – While driving on the busy N2 freeway recently, Athenkosi Foloti’s car did what cars tend to do in the most inconvenient and unexpected moments – it broke down.
Understandably stressed by the sudden predicament, she found herself fearing for her safety as she debated whether to force the car forward or pull over. It was during this moment of panic, as her vehicle refused to pick up speed, that Athenkosi spotted a City of Cape Town law enforcement patrol car.
“To my relief, I pulled over behind them. They quickly came to my aid and even offered to escort me to the nearest safe place,” she later shared in a Facebook post.
As her vehicle had completely lost power by that point, Athenkosi decided to call her car insurance company. The kind officers waited safely by her side until a tow truck arrived.
Athenkosi expressed immense gratitude to Officers Faure and Smith for ensuring she stayed safe and sound on the dangerous N2 freeway.
Sometimes, being a law enforcement officer means so much more than enforcing the law, as the City of Cape Town official page proudly shared online.
The City commended the two officers’ assistance and compassion, which assured a vulnerable woman and stranded motorist that she was not alone.
“Thank you to Officers Faure and Smith for going beyond the call of duty to ensure a stranded motorist reached safety. Your professionalism, compassion and commitment to serving our communities embody the spirit of public service. We are proud to have officers who are there when our residents need them most. They truly are beacons of hope.”
