The informal settlement Imizamo Yethu has received a helping hand once more!

The people of Imizamo Yethu have had a really tough run of luck! First devastating fires ripped through the community, now wind! This is how to help!

For the second time in just 3 months the residents of Imizamo Yethu have had to face loss and start from scratch. Three months ago the community was devastated by a fire that destroyed homes and lives. The community was rebuilt using temporary structures, which have now too been destroyed because of the Cape Storm.

Thula Thula Hout Bay has been working with the fire victims to rebuild, they have set up shelter and drop off points to help the community weather the storm!

Confirmation from Cllr Quintas and Disaster Management is that currently less than 10 structures destroyed, a few minor injuries, all of which have been taken for the relevant medical care.

Community Halls are open to accommodate residents and Mustadafin, has been mobilized to provide appropriate meals and blankets to those in need.

Thula Thula will hold a field distribution day this Saturday 10 June (weather permitting), inviting all fire victims, as they are the residents impacted by the current weather conditions.

Our current need is for blankets, bedding and volunteers for Saturday.

Any blankets can be delivered to our temporary storage facility from tomorrow (8th June 2017) 8:30am corner Atlantic Skipper and Harbour road, Hout Bay.

The community is refusing to give up and has been helping the local disaster management team fill sand bags and work on other safety measures within the area to prevent as much damage as possible!
