The Formula 1 star says he’s always wanted to visit South Africa and hopes to one day race on African soil.

South Africa (24 July 2026) – Formula 1 fans, get ready! Williams Racing driver Alex Albon is heading to South Africa, giving local supporters a chance to get closer than ever to one of the sport’s biggest names.

After weeks of building excitement with a nationwide Formula 1 roadshow, the visit will bring the excitement of the paddock directly to South African fans.

The announcement follows the successful tour of the Williams FW48 show car, which travelled through Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, drawing crowds eager to see a Formula 1 car up close and enter competitions for the chance to meet the Thai-British driver.

For Albon, the visit is more than just another stop on the calendar.

“I’ve always wanted to go to South Africa, it’s a beautiful country, and South African fans are some of the most passionate in motorsport.”

The visit also carries a touch of history. South Africa last hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1993, when Williams driver Alain Prost claimed victory at Kyalami. More than three decades later, Albon will become the first active Williams driver to officially return to South African soil since that memorable race.

He also admitted he’d love to see Formula 1 return to Africa one day.

“I’d love to see a race in Africa one day and I definitely want to be back myself!”

Organisers say the roadshow has highlighted just how passionate South Africans remain about Formula 1, with thousands of fans turning out across the country to experience the show car and celebrate the sport.
