The Most Wholesome Video Update From Field Officer Peter Kamwaza!

Watch this wholesome ‘thank you’ from Field Officer Peter after supporters helped raise every cent needed for his vision-saving surgery in under 24 hours.

Free State, South Africa (02 August 2026) – Earlier this week, we shared the happiest news. After Virginia SPCA put out a call to supporters to help Field Officer Peter Kamwaza, their community raised all the funds needed for his vision-saving surgery in less than 11 hours.

At the time of writing, supporters have raised R63,800 – over 70% of the original goal set by Peter’s coworkers at the SPCA.

The gentleman, who has dedicated so much of his life to helping animals, faces severe vision problems caused by a cataract in his right eye. Without medical aid, the surgery that could save his vision came with a cost far beyond his reach. After reading the SPCA’s heartfelt plea, South Africans immediately got behind Peter and raised all the funds needed.

“Because of your overwhelming support, enough was raised not only to restore the sight in Peter’s right eye, but also to operate on his left eye, where cataracts had already begun to develop,” shared the SPCA in a new update.

Peter will undergo life-changing surgery on both eyes at Bongani Hospital, close to his home. He’ll also receive the medication and eye drops needed for his recovery, as well as funds to travel safely to his surgery and every follow-up appointment. All thanks to the incredible village that got behind him, the SPCA says.

Peter isn’t new to our Good Things Guy headlines. Last year, we shared the story of how deeply the team at Virginia SPCA were affected by the loss of their very first yard dog, Teddy, who had been with them for fifteen years. When he crossed the rainbow bridge in January, the staff at the SPCA were shattered. Field Assistant Peter Kamwaza was especially affected by the loss. He and Teddy were inseparable.
