Community Answers Call to Help SPCA Driver Get New Phone!

A community – and one very kind donor – made sure that SPCA driver Junior was sorted with a brand new cellphone to answer every emergency call.

Germiston, South Africa (07 August 2026) – Junior is the driver behind many of the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s calls for help. He’s the everyday hero who jumps behind the wheel when an animal needs assistance. Recently, Junior’s cellphone stopped working completely.

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA – knowing Junior would not be able to operate without a cellphone – put out a hopeful appeal asking if anyone could assist.

“Our dedicated driver, Junior, is the person who responds to countless calls for help across our area of jurisdiction. Whether an animal has been injured, is sick, needs to be collected after being surrendered, or requires urgent assistance, Junior is often the first person on the scene…” the SPCA shared. “A working phone isn’t a luxury for him, it’s an essential tool. Without a reliable phone, responding quickly to emergencies becomes incredibly difficult, and every minute can make a difference to an animal’s life.”

Hoping that one of its many supporters would be able to help, the SPCA asked its community for a working phone in good condition. One that could allow Junior to continue answering the many calls for help.

Well, that post blew up with over 1000 interactions and almost 200 shares. Kindness did what it does best. Within a day, Junior had a brand new phone!

A new phone may not seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it does make a meaningful difference. Every sick, vulnerable, abandoned and needy animal in the SPCA’s jurisdiction will benefit from having a driver that is able to answer the call and within seconds, be on his way to helping them. What a wonderful ripple effect one small act of kindness can have!
