Brent Lindeque received a surprise Joy Drop from Selati, with one request: to pass the joy on to someone meaningful in his life.

South Africa (01 October 2026) – We all draw a great deal of joy from surprising others. It is one of the sweet parts of life to see a loved one, or even a stranger, filled with joy. And it’s that sweetness that Selati is embodying with its Joy Starts Here campaign.

For Brent Lindeque, the founder of Good Things Guy, this idea is a full-circle moment in action. It all started with an act of kindness that changed the course of his life.

Years ago, Brent was challenged to take part in a Neknomination, a social media trend that encouraged people to film themselves drinking and then nominate others to do the same. Instead of accepting the challenge as it was intended, Brent decided to turn it into something positive. He found a homeless man on the streets and bought him a meal.

He then asked others to do the same. One small act became another and then another, and before long, it was an international movement! That simple decision to choose kindness became the beginning of what would eventually become Good Things Guy, a platform built around sharing stories of goodness and reminding people that they have the power to make a difference.

Embodying the idea of paying it forward, Selati’s Joy Starts Here campaign is giving South African’s the opportunity to celebrate the big joys and the little ones.

As part of Selati’s Joy Starts Here campaign, Brent was recently surprised with his own Joy Drop: spa vouchers for him and his partner.

It was a chance to pause, relax and enjoy a little pampering, because sometimes the people who spend their days sharing goodness with others need a moment to receive some themselves.

“I spend so much of my life sharing other people’s good news and celebrating the incredible things South Africans do for one another, so being on the receiving end of a little joy was bladdy special. And who doesn’t love a spa day? What I loved most was that the gift came with an opportunity to make someone else happy. That’s my favourite gift… one that keeps on giving.”

But there was another part to the gift.

Alongside the spa vouchers was an additional R3,000 voucher, with one simple request: Brent was encouraged to pass the joy on to someone meaningful in his life.

“This one was easy. My mom! She’s just finished radiation treatment for breast cancer and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of a little pampering. It’s been a massive few months for our family but I’m so incredibly proud of her. She’s been an absolute superstar through it all and now it’s her turn to be spoilt.”

“But I’m not stopping there! I’ve actually gone out and bought another voucher with my own money and I’m going to give it to a Good Things Guy reader. I want South Africans to nominate someone in their lives who could really use a little joy. Someone who’s had a tough year, someone who always puts everyone else first, someone who deserves to feel special or someone who is just lekker. Let’s keep this thing going!”

It is a small but powerful idea at the heart of Selati’s Joy Starts Here campaign. Joy doesn’t have to be extravagant to matter. Often, it is the genuine act of giving that stays with us.

“I think we sometimes forget just how much power we have to change someone’s day. Good Things Guy literally started because I bought a homeless man a meal and look where that one little bit of kindness took us! You don’t need a massive bank balance or some grand gesture to make someone happy. Buy someone a coffee. Send that message you’ve been meaning to send. Tell someone you’re proud of them. And if you’re lucky enough to receive a little joy yourself, find a way to pass it on. That’s what I love about this campaign. Selati gave me a gift, I’m giving it to my mom and now someone in our Good Things Guy community is going to get a surprise too. Imagine if we all did that? Imagine how much happiness we could create. That’s the South Africa I love. And that’s the South Africa I want to see more of.”

And now it is your turn. Join the conversation, share the joys of your life.
