With the right support behind her, Grade 12 learner Meyah Clarke unlocked her full potential, balancing life’s everyday challenges to become a standout student leader, top academic achiever, and an inspiration to everyone around her.

Cape Town, South Africa (16 October 2026) – When potential meets support, seemingly ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things! Juggling the everyday challenges of her life together with schoolwork wasn’t always easy for Meyah Clarke. However, when she joined the SOS Africa sponsorship programme in 2019, this remarkable young lady demonstrated the qualities of a natural-born leader.

According to SOS Africa, Meyah has always had a clear vision of her future, with her sights set on a career in Law.

“You could tell from an early age that she had a genuine gift for speaking up and fighting for what is right,” says Li-andi Claassen, Operations Manager at SOS Africa.

And she has consistently shown progress throughout high school, applying herself to her academics, inspiring excellence, and leading by example. Having already earned the great honour of being appointed Head Girl at Hottentots Holland High (HHH) School for 2026, Meyah received many of the top accolades at the Annual HHH Prize-giving Ceremony last week.

Meyah received 10 diplomas and six awards at the ceremony – accolades that brought a wave of emotion and self-pride to the young achiever.

“It felt so heavy holding it all, not because of the achievements in my hands but because I remember where I started and how much I stumbled and got back up again; a reminder that faith and hard work really do pay off,” Meyah said.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunities and what the outside world has in store for me. Although it seems scary and somewhat challenging, I’m sure I will be able to manage as I do like a challenge.”

Meyah’s Principal, Francois Fouche, was also full of praise for the young role model.

“During this year, Meyah Clarke stayed humble and true to herself. She embraced every opportunity that HHH gave her. Not only did she participate with enthusiasm, but supporters of our school would agree that her mere presence inspired excellence. We are exceptionally proud of her,” he said.

As for SOS Africa, they remain in awe of the transformation they have witnessed in Meyah.

“From her unmatched confidence to exceptional leadership abilities and extraordinary positive influence on others, she has made a lasting impression. After witnessing Meyah’s recent achievements and recognition, I am not at all surprised, as they just highlight her immense potential for success,” shares Li-andi.

With their final exams now underway, SOS Africa’s Matric students remain more focused than ever. Meyah also continues to show dedication to her goal of entering the legal field, applying to prestigious Universities to continue developing her talents in 2027.

“It is evident that she is destined for greatness, and we have full confidence that Meyah will achieve remarkable things on her chosen path.”
