The South African breaststroke specialist spent the morning with children at a development programme, sharing lessons on goal-setting.
Cape Town, South Africa (26 October 2026) – A morning they will never forget, hosted by Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club at a development programme.
The children had the opportunity to spend time with Olympic swimmer Michael Houlie, who shared his sporting journey and encouraged them to set goals, believe in themselves and keep working towards their ambitions.
Houlie, a specialist in breaststroke, spoke to the young athletes about the importance of building confidence in the water and having the determination to pursue their dreams.
But the morning was about more than serious conversations and sporting advice. There were also fun relays, plenty of laughter, big smiles and prizes to celebrate along the way.

What stood out most was the way Houlie connected with each child. According to the club, he was generous with his time and made everyone feel included, supported and capable of achieving something special.
For young athletes who are still finding their feet in sport, meeting someone who has competed at the highest level can be a powerful reminder of what dedication and hard work can make possible.
Houlie’s visit gave the children an opportunity to learn from an Olympian while enjoying an active, memorable morning with their peers.
Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club thanked the swimmer for sharing his experience and inspiring the next generation.
It was a day filled with fun and encouragement, proving that sometimes one conversation, a little guidance or simply having someone believe in you can make a lasting difference.
