Whether they were travelling to receive a diagnosis or to begin life-saving treatment, in a single month, Wings & Wishes was able to connect 49 brave warriors across the country with the expert medical care they required.
South Africa (02 November 2026) – As a new month begins, it is always worth taking a moment to pause and reflect on the journey we’ve just travelled. Looking back at October, Wings and Wishes stood proudly as a lifeline, bridging the gap between 49 brave young warriors and the medical care they so desperately needed.
One of those 157 journeys was that of young Chevon and her mom, who were delighted to return home last week after spending almost a month at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
During their stay, Chevon underwent surgery and received important training on how to manage her dialysis. It was a long and challenging journey, and Wings and Wishes was happy that the family could finally head home for some much-needed time together.
“We are honoured to be part of Chevon’s journey towards better health and a brighter future,” said the Wings and Wishes team.
Also, just last week, young patients Ovezuthando and Inani travelled to Red Cross Children’s Hospital – Ovezuthando to begin the workup for his stem cell transplant planned for December, and Inani to receive specialised care and ongoing management of his medical condition.
For these two young boys and their families, these journeys represent hope, courage, and the possibility of a brighter future.
Behind every journey was a different story. Some children travelled to receive a diagnosis; others travelled to begin life-saving treatment. Some were finally making their way home after lengthy hospital stays, and others travelled for their regular monthly specialist appointments and ongoing care.
Every journey is different, but each one carries hope: hope for answers, hope for healing, and hope for a healthier future. Every young patient reached their destination thanks to an organisation committed to providing and funding the transportation to get there.
As the organisation best puts it:
“We are privileged to be part of these journeys, taking away the worry and financial burden of travel so that families can focus on what matters most: their children. To our donors, sponsors, and travel partners—thank you for being the bridge that makes these journeys possible. Together, we keep hope in motion, one journey at a time.”
