National Geographic chose the Cradle of Humankind as one of its cultural picks for the ‘Best Trips of 2017’ list. They suggest visiting in winter and more.
National Geographic posted a list of 21 of the Best Trips to take in 2017. They split the list into three categories to make the selection for travelers easier. The categories are Nature, Cities and Culture.
These would help tourists decide where to travel depending on if they want to be surrounded by nature, head out on a city adventure or soak up the culture of a place.
The Cradle of Humankind is the only Southern African country on the list. The Cradle of Humankind Visitor Center stands as a unique entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage site.
The list shares interesting information about each of the recommendations as well as when the best time to visit is and tips while there.
“Within the Cradle’s limestone caves and dolomite sinkholes, scientists have discovered one of the world’s greatest sources of hominid fossils—including Little Foot, a nearly complete ancient hominid skeleton.”
They make some great recommendations about when to visit the Cradle and other tips.
“June to September (winter) for clear skies and comfortable temps (averaging between 39 and 66 degrees Fahrenheit); October to March (summer) typically is wetter and warmer”
“The Maropeng Visitor Center (closed Mondays) is a good starting point, but it’s only one location within the 180-square-mile World Heritage site. To get the most out of your visit, consider booking a private tour.”
