Over 54 kittens, puppies and fully-grown pets have been rescued and are being treated after the Khayelitsha fire, and are are making a good recovery.
The horrific fire that displaced nearly 4000 people on the 20th of October, also affected the animals within Town Two. Many animals were rescued from the fire by the South African Mass Animal Sterilisation Trust (SA MAST) and are being kept safe until they can be returned to their family members, fostered or new homes found.
The Trust have rescued 20 puppies, 13 kittens, 16 adult dogs, 4 adult cats and one dog that was badly burned by the fire. The collection of pets varies in age with some kittens being as young as 1 week old. Many are in need of foster care and some need to be rehomed.
A few of the pets are just staying with the trust while their owners rebuild their homes. The trust has been helping one of the dogs get medical treatment after being badly burned by the fire. Thankfully his eyes remained unharmed by the fire, just his neck, ears and snout were burned.
“He is doing much better and recovering very well and he will be able to go home to his loving and caring guardians soon.”
The injured pup is one of the lucky ones who is going home to his family as soon as he is all healed up.

The trust has appealed to the public for help with food for the animals as their stocks have run really low. They have asked that donations be dropped off at the Table View Animal Hospital, 67 Blaauwberg Rd, Table View (Opposite Bayside Shopping Centre). They have asked that if anyone wishes to make a financial donation, that they contact them directly for details.
Lastly, they hope that people will look at the kittens, puppies, cats and dogs in their care and possibly offer them a forever home or a nice warm foster home until their forever home can be found.
