Shadrack was walking to work when he was held up at gunpoint and shot; the armed robbery has left him paralysed from the shoulders down – The community have raised nearly R200,000 to support him on his recovery.
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 September 2021) – The Angel Network has raised nearly R200,000 in four days to support Shadrack Kuchale, a father of two whose life has been forever changed due to an armed robbery. His story is devastating, but his community are rallying to ensure his recovery is a smooth one.
Shadrack was on his way to work, walking from home at around 5 am, when he was stopped by a gunman who demanded his phone. They attacked Shadrack and, during the assault, shot him in the neck and then dragged him to the ATM, where he was forced to enter his pin. The armed robbers withdrew the entire contents of Shadrack’s bank account and left him on the ground to bleed out.
When Shadrack was found, he was rushed to the local government hospital, where after emergency triage, he waited for a bed for a harrowing 12 hours. The bullet had travelled through his spinal cord and down into his lung, causing an enormous amount of damage.
Initially, Shadrack was diagnosed as paraplegic, but the Angel Network got a second opinion for him. Sadly, after a CT scan, it has been confirmed that he is quadriplegic, paralysed from the shoulders down. The team at the Angel Network are crowdfunding to take care of the costs for trauma counselling, physical therapy, a specialised wheelchair, rent, home improvements, food, school fees, nappies, medication etc.
