Mark Tromp has shared a wonderful idea about how to give back this Boxing Day after all the gifts have been opened and all the food has been cooked.
South Africa (24 December 2021) – What is Santa bringing you for Christmas this year? If he happens to replace something you already have for a newer version, the Boxing Day Challenge may just be for you!
Mark Tromp reached out to Good Things Guy to share his idea of a festive challenge. He hopes that it inspires people to give to those in need while reducing what ends up in landfills.
The Boxing Day Challenge
“The day after Christmas, boxing day, is a great opportunity to help the less fortunate. There are plenty of boxes, wrapping paper, extra food and old things being replaced by new things, which are just going to go to waste. If we could repack and even wrap some boxes on boxing day, with xmas lunch leftovers and old things replaced by new, then the waste and excess of this consumer holiday could have a real impact. Placed outside gifts instead of rubbish bags. Can you imagine the joy?” – Mark Tromp
The festive season is always brightened by being surrounded by friends, family, fun, and food! For many, festive food is the best kind of food, and it is always a joy to share that food with others. You can even just fill a lunchbox with some leftover-filled sandwiches and hand them out to people at the robots. Roasted meat sandwiches with a little butter, mayonnaise, and a slice of cheese are one of the best ways to enjoy leftover meat. And that would be a delicious treat for someone in need.
Another great way to work this challenge is to say, out with the old and in with the new! Got some new PJs, sneakers or clothing? Go through your cupboard, and for every new item of clothing, pull out one of your older pieces to go to charity.
So if you find yourself with a little extra, you can make the world a better place by filling a box and sending it along to someone in need. Take a look at our charity list here for a charity close to you.
