The young man who once arrived at Cradle of Hope as a high school pupil is now moving on to build his own future.
Johannesburg, South Africa (04 September 2026) – After five years, The Cradle of Hope is saying goodbye to one of its own and while there are plenty of reasons to be sad, there is even more to celebrate.
Innocent Plaatjies first crossed paths with the organisation while he was still in high school and facing incredibly difficult circumstances. With his own determination, alongside support from generous donors, he was able to finish matric, move into safe accommodation and begin building a more secure future.
He later became part of the Cradle of Hope team, while also completing a course in Logistics Management. For the past five years, he has been a familiar and friendly face in the organisation’s Logistics Department, helping collect and deliver donations to those who need them.
And it seems his kindness has not gone unnoticed.
The organisation says donors regularly praised Innocent for his friendliness, willingness to help and positive attitude.
Now, a new chapter is calling.
Innocent is leaving The Cradle of Hope to take up a learnership and continue building his life and career. It is a change that comes with plenty of emotion for the team that has watched him grow from a schoolboy into a young adult ready to take on the next stage of his life.
There may be a few tears as he leaves, but there is also an enormous sense of pride.
For The Cradle of Hope, Innocent’s story is a reminder of what meaningful upliftment can look like. It is not only about helping someone through a difficult moment, but about creating opportunities that allow them to eventually stand on their own feet and look towards a different future.
After five years of being part of the organisation, Innocent may be moving on, but his place in the Cradle of Hope family remains.
The team is wishing him well as he takes his next step and with the hope that he keeps the same smile.
