A small act of kindness goes a long way in supporting Cape Town’s cart horse owners and the dedicated organisation that protects their animals.
Cape Town, South Africa (25 July 2025) – In a heartwarming act of generosity, Mandy, Colleen and Imaan from The Lazer Transport Group in Epping visited the Cart Horse Protection Association with 80 jars filled with dry soup ingredients. The thoughtful donation was directed at local cart horse owners, offering a small but meaningful gesture of care and support.
Each jar, packed with ingredients like lentils, pasta and seasoning, provided the makings of a homemade hearty meal. On 18 July, many cart horse owners were able to enjoy a warm bowl of soup. A comforting moment made possible by this kind act. The recipients were moved, and the jars were received with deep appreciation.
The Cart Horse Protection Association, based in Cape Town, is a non-profit organisation committed to improving the lives of working horses and donkeys across the Western Cape. The organisation focuses on animal welfare through service provision, education, training and advocacy.
Beyond caring for animals, the association also works closely with the people who depend on them, many of whom earn a living transporting goods using horse-drawn carts. Programmes include community outreach, a planned youth initiative on the Cape Flats, and the rescue and rehabilitation of abused or neglected horses.
