She went through extraordinary lengths to get her dog urgent help. She stayed at his side through every difficult step of the way. This is what LOVE looks like!

Cape Town, South Africa (12 June 2026) – On Monday morning, staff at the Animal Rescue Organisation spotted a baby pram making its way towards the hospital. It wasn’t carrying a sleeping infant but instead, curled up inside, was an injured dog whose owner had found the gentlest way she could think of to get him the help he desperately needed.

Unable to walk on an injured leg, the pup had been carefully tucked into the pram and wheeled to safety by his human.

“Every step of the journey was taken with love, making sure he was as comfortable as possible on his way to ARO.” the organisation shared.

The unusual arrival stole the hearts of the team at the ARO (Animal Rescue Organisation), which works to serve the animals in Cape Town’s informal settlements and townships.

After examining the dog and taking X-rays, vets confirmed that the pup had unfortunately fractured his front leg. Thanks to the love that wheeled him there, he had made it to the clinic soon enough to begin receiving the care he needed.

The heartwarming detail is that his loving owner stood by his side through every step of the way.

“She stayed with him during treatment and supported him through those difficult first days of recovery, making sure he felt safe, comfortable, and loved.” the ARO shared.

ARO’s goal is to alleviate the plight of vulnerable animals living in informal settlements and under-resourced communities in and around Cape Town. Accessing veterinary care can be incredibly challenging for families in these areas. Yet time and again, people find a way.

“Stories like this remind us that behind every patient is someone who cares deeply for them. Despite the challenges they face, many of our clients will go to extraordinary lengths to get help for their pets.”

Behind the hundreds of animals treated by animal welfare organisations across our country are loving owners who walk long distances, borrow transport, rearrange already-stretched budgets and do whatever they can to make sure their pets receive the help they need. It’s one of the feel-good stories we love telling most. We are a proud nation of animal lovers!

Thankfully, this one has a really happy ending. The pup is now on the mend, surrounded by a family who adores him!

“Today, this brave boy is on the road to recovery, surrounded by a family who loves him very much” shares ARO.
