The Animal Rescue Organisation team is training hard for the upcoming Gun Run Pet Walk, and it’s all to raise funds for a new mobile clinic that will bring much-needed veterinary care directly to township animals.

Cape Town, South Africa (01 September 2025) – The dedicated members of the Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO) are gearing up to hit the road for vulnerable, township animals.

On 13 September, they will be participating in the 5km Gun Run Pet Walk. Starting from Fritz Sonnenberg Road in Green Point and finishing on the Green Point Common, participating in the event will be more than just a fun outdoor activity for these everyday animal heroes, as they will be raising funds for a brand-new Mobile Clinic.

“This service is a lifeline for pets in need, and as a team, we’re ready to put in the miles (and the sore feet!) to help make Mobile Clinic No. 3 a reality,” ARO says.

During a sterilisation campaign held last year, it became apparent to the ARO team that in areas like Phumulani, Jim se Bos, Lekkerwater, Egoli, and Seqalo, pet owners experience a desperate need for help for their animals. However, access to veterinary care is far from reach.

“Many pet owners live just a few kilometres from our current clinics, but it might as well be 100. Their animals are too ill to walk, taxis won’t allow pets, and public transport just isn’t an option. Some push their pets in wheelbarrows or shopping trolleys to get help. But for many, it’s just not possible – and animals suffer needlessly as a result,” ARO shares.

A new mobile clinic could change this devastating reality for countless families and their furbabies.

ARO has launched a crowdfunding campaign on GivenGain to raise R10,000 towards the clinic that will provide:

  • Basic vet care for thousands of animals every year
  • Referrals for sterilisation to stop the cycle of overpopulation
  • Life-saving vaccinations and parasite control
  • Education that empowers communities to care for their pets responsibly

As they train hard for the 5km walk, they’re doing it to bring hope, health and dignity to pets and their owners in need.

“Help us help the doggies and kitties who need us most!”
