There is a beautiful holiday lodge in the heart of the Timbavati that allows you to stay for free… the only catch is that you need a medical degree to book in!
The Tshemba Foundation gives medical professionals (local and abroad) the chance to give back to the community, help those in dire need of medical attention, and find their love of the art of medicine again.
Their volunteer programme is one of a kind as Moditlo private game reserve and it’s a perfect doctor’s refuge.
Medical specialists and their partners stay at the five-star doctor’s refuge FREE of charge on a self-catering basis, while they explore Hoedspruit, and work at the Tintwalo Hospital and affiliated clinics.
The goal is to improve access to health care for the lower income population in rural areas. The foundation also encourages doctors to pass along valuable knowledge to local medical providers. Doctors involved in the volunteer programme are sent where their skills are most needed.
“Tshemba has funded a pioneering healthcare infrastructure project, the Hlokomela Women’s Centre, which offers breast and cervical cancer screening and treatment to local farm workers and their families and is the first of its kind in the region.
The volunteers are given the opportunity to experience living in the Bush. The Tshemba Foundation houses all volunteers at their luxury property in the Moditlo Game Reserve. The house has stunning views of the Drakensberg Mountains as well.”
