You know “that” Woolies Valentine’s advert that got pulled off the shelves last week? Well Pizza Hut have just fixed it…
Johannesburg, South Africa – Woolworths recently trended again (between the Ubuntu Baba baby carriers and Super Latte drinks fiascos) with their new in-store Valentine’s campaign… which was also very quickly pulled from all of their stores.
The retail giant launched the Valentine’s campaign at the beginning of February but the posters left South Africans feeling more confused than in love.
The massive posters in their stores described a partner who does “everything” wrong but explained in very fine print that you would still love them regardless.
“She orders a salad and then steals your chips.
She takes forever to get ready.
She snuggles you to the edge of the bed.
She uses your razor to shave her legs.
She makes you her instagram husband.
She says she’s “fine” when you know she’s not. She’s the light of your life.
#LoveAlwaysWins”
The concept was executed to describe both genders and stereotypes that “may” occur in relationships but neither of them sat well with South African social media users.
“He touches your hair.
He doesn’t know the title to “your song”.
He makes plans without telling you.
He uses the wrong emojis in text messages.
And believes he’s entitled to the remote control.
He thinks he knows better than Siri. He’s the man of your dreams.
#LoveAlwaysWins”
South African social media took them to task and within less than a day, all the adverts and promotional items were pulled from their stores.
We thought the story had ended there until Pizza Hut launched their Valentine’s campaign… completely trolling the big retailer.
Pizza Hut used a similar typeface, colour and even the same hashtag… but they ‘fixed’ the original! They shared the post with their 31 million Facebook followers stating that there is a pizza for everyone…every gender, every age, every race, every day. They then followed up the post using the hashtags “Love Always Wins”, “Pizza Always Wins” and “Woolworths”.
