Making A Difference South Africa – a charity run by a collective of people – collected money to buy mattresses for the community in New Hanover.
New Hanover, South Africa – Victims of the New Hanover Tornado have struggled to rebuild their lives. A massive tornado swept through the community displacing nearly 1300 people. Efforts are being made to rebuild the damaged homes. Temporary structures, mostly tents, have been erected to house the displaced community members.
Several charitable organisations have worked to assist the community, with the latest coming from ‘Making A Difference South Africa’ a charity run by a collective of South Africans.
They recently launched a campaign to raise funds to purchase mattresses for the community. They managed to get 120 mattresses and had them delivered to the depot in New Hanover. The organisation is now working to distribute them to the community.
Their goal was to collect 100 mattresses in the first seven days after the disaster struck. They were thankful to have a donor who helped them reach beyond their goal.
Now 120 people, maybe more, will have the chance to get a good nights sleep for the first time since their homes were blown away.

New Hanover hasn’t been in the news much, but there are still organisations helping the community. Gift of the Givers is also working to help the community; they are raising funds here. The funds are being used to purchase building materials, clothing, blankets, food parcels, bottled water, stationery, diapers, hygiene and sanitary pads.
