Charity Builds 100 Kennels Before the Cold Sets in Free State

The Cluny Animal Trust, based in Free State, is campaigning to raise funds to build 100 kennels, stock them with warm blankets and food before the bitter cold sets in.

Free State, South Africa (07 May 2019) – The Eastern Free State faces brutally cold winters with temperatures sometimes dropping to below -8 degrees at night. Any person would feel this cold, but the animals who live outdoors really struggle. That is why the Cluny Animal Trust is working to raise funds for 100 new waterproof kennels, warm blankets and dog food.

They are hoping to use their BackaBuddy fund to help them reach their Mandela Day goal. Their focus this year will be on the Clarens and Fouriesburg area.

“We want to build 100 kennels in celebration of Mandela Day and these kennels will be given to pet owners in the community where the living conditions of animals are less than perfect.

We have had all of the wood and nails donated by 2 wonderful companies – Advanced Crating and Machine Moving & Engineering but we are raising funds to pay for the actual labour to build the kennels as they need to be built correctly and we also need to make sure they are waterproof. Ideally we would like to also provide each kennel with a thick blanket and food.”

All they need is 100 people to donate R150.00, which will cover the costs of the labour for the kennels as well as the food and blankets. They plan to employ people who can make sturdy, life-lasting kennels.

“Many people often think that animals don’t feel the cold but the truth is that animals feel the cold just like we do, can you imagine sleeping outside for even one night at -8 degrees? If you can’t…then please help us raise the funds needed for this very worthy project!”

Should the Trust reach their goal, that will be 100 dogs helped through winter and if they go above their goal, the extra money will be used to fund their sterilisation projects within these areas.
