The young veterinarian has now raised more than half of the R45,000 needed for his SAVC registration examinations.
South Africa (03 September 2026) – There’s been some good news in Dr Obey Kadyamajongwe’s journey towards practising as a veterinarian in South Africa.
A few weeks ago, we shared his story and asked the community to help him cover the cost of the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) registration examinations. It’s a crucial step before he can practise independently in the country.
Thanks to the generosity of people who have donated, shared his story and offered words of encouragement, more than 50% of the funds needed for his examinations has now been raised.
It’s a huge milestone for the young veterinarian, who graduated from the University of Zimbabwe in 2024 and is working towards building his career in South Africa.
Dr Obey is already qualified as a veterinarian in Zimbabwe, but because he trained outside South Africa, he needs to pass the SAVC registration examinations before he can practise independently here.
The examination fees total R45,000 and at Cottage Vet Clinic, where Dr Obey applied for work, the team believes in his potential and has loaned him the R45,000 needed to register for the examinations so that finances would not prevent him from taking the next step.
The fundraising campaign was launched to help ease that financial burden, allowing him to focus on qualifying and starting his career rather than spending months or even years repaying the cost of simply getting into the examination process.
With more than half of the target now covered, the campaign is moving in the right direction, but there is still more to raise.
Anyone who would like to support Dr Obey can still contribute to his crowdfunding campaign. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing his story could help connect him with someone who can.
