From the Springbok Women’s impressive performance against the USA to the men’s entertaining clash with England, Ellis Park hosted a memorable day of international rugby.

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 July 2026) – South African rugby served up a full day of action at Ellis Park this weekend, with both the Springbok Women and Springbok Men taking to the famous Johannesburg turf. Here’s how it unfolded:

Springbok Women Kick Things Off in Style

The Bok Women got the day off to the perfect start with an impressive 34-21 victory over the USA, producing a dominant first-half display that laid the platform for the win. After racing into a commanding lead before the break, the hosts showed plenty of attacking flair while continuing the encouraging form they’ve built under head coach Swys de Bruin. Although the USA mounted a spirited fightback in the second half, South Africa had already done enough to secure another confidence-boosting result.

Milestones Celebrated in Green and Gold

The afternoon also marked a special occasion for Babalwa Latsha, who led the Springbok Women as captain, while later in the day Damian Willemse and Cheslin Kolbe celebrated their 50th Test appearances for the Springboks, adding another memorable chapter to their international careers.

Springboks Thrill Packed Ellis Park Crowd

More than 52,000 supporters packed Ellis Park to welcome the Springboks for the opening Test of their Nations Championship campaign against England. The world champions rewarded the home crowd with an entertaining display, crossing the tryline seven times to claim a 45-21 victory.

Despite losing captain Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth before kick-off through injury, the Boks adapted well, with Pieter-Steph du Toit taking over the captaincy and the team producing an energetic performance.

From the Springbok Women setting the tone earlier in the day to the men’s team delivering another exciting performance under the lights, Ellis Park once again proved why it remains one of South African rugby’s iconic venues.
