Emerging Artists will shine in their own aptly titled exhibition as part of the Cape Town Arts Festival celebrations!
Cape Town, South Africa (09 November 2023) — As the days wind down in anticipation of The Cape Town Arts Festival scheduled for 9 and 10 December, no one’s excitement matches that of the emerging artists who will have their works displayed in the ‘Shine Visual Arts Exhibition’—a celebration of the human narrative.
This exhibition echoes the Cape Town Arts Festival’s essence—connecting creatives to the community and vice versa. However, it’s an extra special display this year as participating artists have been tasked with weaving their own personal stories into their works.
Emerging artists that the creative community will meet (or meet again) include Anam Nxelewa, Chain Nkosinathi Kandeni, Hlobile Maphumulo, Micke Buitendag, fashion favourite Masa Mara and the renowned Zanele Muholi.
Newcomer to the art scene, Open Heart Gallery in Langa, have been given the go-ahead to promote emerging artists at the festival as curated by multimedia award winner Visual Curator, Nompumelelo Rakabe.
But, opportunities for exhibition of the magnitude enjoyed in previous years (2022’s event created a platform for 425 artists, volunteers and suppliers to an audience of over 1100) need to become more common, Muholi presses.
“We need to see these kinds of events happening monthly so that it becomes a norm. South Africa has the best talent but much of it is underrepresented and underexposed. There are many people in townships across Cape Town that require these spaces.”
Still, being exhibited at the City’s favourite festival is a milestone achievement for any creative, and with every new artist given a chance, there’s another waiting in the wings of inspiration.
The Shine Visual Arts Exhibition will run from 6-15 December at the Castle of Good Hope.
