From a cardboard box to becoming the most precious cargo! After her incredible rescue a month ago, Betsie received lots of love from her foster family and overwhelming support from generous hearts around the world. Now, thanks to that global kindness, this little ol’ lady is finally on the move!
Bloemfontein, South Africa (07 November 2025) – Pug lovers and all those who were touched by the story of Betsie – the cutie found in a cardboard box – get excited, because this old girl is on the move!
Pug Rescue South Africa recently shared a heartwarming update that Betsie began her long journey to Benoni this week in the trusted care of Malcolm and Cheryl.
The pair have taken over from Betsie’s foster family, who had been looking after the pug since last month, ensuring she received the medical care, treats and cuddles she needed after being found all alone, in a cardboard box in a remote area, said to be about 1,000km away from the Benoni-based Pug Rescue.
Her story tugged at the hearts of so many people who took the time to listen and inspired generosity across the world, ensuring she could finally make the trek to the pug sanctuary that will provide for all her needs.
Yesterday, Malcolm, Cheryl and Betsie left Queenstown en route to Bloemfontein for their night stop before continuing their journey by car today.
“Our sweet Betsie, the Pug found in a cardboard box in a remote area, is such an awesome little travel companion. We are so grateful to every individual who has been part of her journey to Pug Rescue,” a recent post read.
With a few more kilometres to go, this special girl will reach her destination at Pug Rescue, an animal welfare organisation that has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pugs in need irrespective of their age, standard or health since 2008.
There, Betsie will also receive a full veterinary check-up.
It’s so exciting to witness and experience her journey unfold so beautifully, with so much care and support ensuring she gets her happy ‘furever’ after!
