Elephants Alive recently visited two schools, bringing conservation education to life for young students who got to learn all about elephant protection and the innovative role of bees in crop safety.
Mpumalanga, South Africa (29 January 2025) – Elephants Alive recently had the privilege of visiting two schools in the region between Acornhoek and the Sabi Sands: Tsakane Special Needs School and the Makrapeni Green Kidz, supported by the remarkable Nourish Foundation.
Wildlife enthusiasts Mpho and Ronny brought conservation to life, delivering engaging lessons in Xitsonga to connect deeply with the students.
Mpho, from the Kruger 2 Canyon Biosphere, representing the Kruger 2 Canyon Biosphere and a partner in Elephants Alive’s educational programme, shared valuable insights on elephant conservation.
Meanwhile, Ronny highlighted the creative application of beekeeping, describing how bees help safeguard crops from elephants, provide income through honey sales, and enhance crucial crop pollination in these thriving communities.
The day was truly special as Michelle allowed the special needs pupils to experience the sights and smells of different elephant-resistant crops firsthand.
Elephants Alive distributed valuable educational resources, including Zoya and Naru books, Vusa the Elephant Guardian comics, activity books, and lesson plans. These resources help foster a deep understanding of conservation and sustainability in the hearts of young students between the ages of 8 and 15.
Elephants Alive has been dedicated to wildlife preservation for 28 years. While crucial research, such as elephant collaring and tracking, continues, empowering the next generation through education is paramount for a sustainable future for all.
