Ever heard of a shark that barks? Well, you obviously haven’t met Sharky, the adorable pup looking for a home!

Johannesburg, South Africa (18 July 2024) — A little dog named Sharky (for all too obvious and adorable reasons) has stolen the internet’s hearts thanks to the kind of smile you hardly see every day.

Pet Empowerment in Townships Johannesburg—an organisation who believe in giving animals as many chances as they can with a focus on impoverished townships where many people cannot give their animals the care they —introduced little Sharky to the world at the end of June in hopes that he would find his happy ending.

But before finding a home, the first call to action was to find Sharky a suitable name. After many cute and creative suggestions from their animal-loving community (including Fang, Chewbacca and Toothless), the jury eventually settled on Sharky—an ode to both his pearlers and shark-like confidence. Rumour has it that Sharky is also a big fan of parties.

While Sharky is currently being fostered in doggy daycare, he is now ready to find his forever home and people are spreading his smile far and wide in hopes that he will soon find it as at present, no one has applied for the little guy.

Any Joburgers without a toddler or babies looking for another pet pal to add to their home (Sharky needs another friend) can get in touch with Pet Empowerment in Townships by emailing Nicoleb.pets@gmail.com. After all, how many people can say they’ve got a fluffy shark as a pet?

Meanwhile, in animal stories where a happy ending came right on time, Billie, the curious cat from Bellville, went on a 45km adventure to find the woman who’d bring him back home exactly a month after he disappeared! You can read Billie’s story here.
