For over two decades, Nature Connect has helped connect communities to nature. In a massive milestone for the team, they made a clean sweep for their nominated categories at the recent SANParks Kudu Awards, resulting in three wins!

Cape Town, South Africa (03 December 2024) — Not-for-profit, Public Benefits Organisation Nature Connect is celebrating a massive milestone after the team behind it won not just one, but three prestigious awards at the recent SANParks’ 2024 Kudu Awards!

The Kudu Awards recognise deserving conservationists and organisations who have made significant strides in protecting South Africa’s natural heritage. They’re known as the ‘Oscars of local conservation’ for good reason and celebrate heroes who are often unsung.

While it may not be Nature Connect’s first time winning at the awards, it is a remarkable victory sweep for 2024!

Who Are Nature Connect?

Founded in 2001, Nature connect has a lengthy history of providing environmental education and outdoor experiences to children from the Cape Flats. This support has reached 188,000 children; an engaging effort to foster more curiosity about the natural environment for future generations!

Over the years, Nature Connect has grown from strength to strength and into other areas of green goodness. It has been behind educational pursuits, green skills development programmes and supported various conservation projects—all in a bid to help people connect to nature.

One of their pride and joy projects is the Sustainable Schools Programme that launched in 2021. The programme—a means to integrate environmental education in school teaching while providing resources for teachers—was a standout effort, and one of the reasons they were able to make a clean sweep in their nominated categories!

The Kudu Awards Victories!

Nature Connect won:

  • The Non-Governmental Organisation Award, which highlights the organisation’s dedication to preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices.
  • The Environmental Education Award; a celebration of the success of the Sustainable Schools programme which has played a big role in raising awareness and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
  • And the Community Contribution to Conservation Award which acknowledges the Small Grants Project run in partnership with the Table Mountain Fund; an empowerment project that helps local communities by providing financial support for grassroots conservation projects.
