The pound dogs at Pietermaritzburg SPCA have gotten new space to run and play after previously cluttered and cramped areas received a marvellous makeover.
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (11 December 2024) — It was a proud moment for the SPCA Pietermaritzburg committee and all those who helped make some magic happen after they revealed not one but three new spaces for their pound dogs to run and play!
The exercise runs are the result of a marvellous makeover that transformed spaces that were previously cluttered, cramped and in need of some TLC.
With new paint jobs, cement work and fencing done and dusted, the pound dogs now have room to stretch their legs and keep active while they await their forever homes.

The new spaces will help keep the animals healthier by making sure that their muscles are kept active. Additionally, they are helpful for socialisation efforts and, of course, a sure way for the pooches to have a little fun.
The effort hopes to be one of many for the Pietermaritzburg SPCA. They are aiming to create eight more exercise runs and would greatly appreciate support from the public.
Support can be shown either through the donation of fencing, wire, cement, stone and shade cloth or through labour donations from companies that can provide such.
Those who are able to support the development of future exercise runs for the Pietermaritzburg SPCA can find their website here and get in touch on 033 386 9267.
Meanwhile, in other good news where pound dogs got essential spoils, the Animal Welfare Helderberg team recently received much-needed colourful pet pools to help their pooches enjoy a cool pet summer just in time for the sweltering December heat!
