The Mhondoro Game Lodge is a 5 star luxury resort that is officially doing away with plastic bottles, instead offering the local waters in glass bottles.

The Mhondoro game lodge is setting a new standard for the tourism industry. The game lodge is doing away with all plastic bottles and offering recyclable glass bottles instead. Each person that visits their game lodge will also receive a personalised aluminium water bottle that can be filled and used during the game drives.

This switch is being done in honour of Braam Malherbe and his DOT challenge, we shared the story about the awesome and easy to use DOT Challenge App back in April while Braam was out at sea promoting the cause while rowing to Rio from South Africa.

Mhondoro Game Lodge is based in Limpopo, they have invested in a water purification plant that will produce fresh and clean drinking water. The water will come from the surrounding Waterberg mountains.

The lodge is working at recycling 100% of its excess waste including glass, cans, paper and food. The restaurant composts all organic material which is then used in the local garden. The fresh produce from the garden is then used in the kitchen.

Mhondoro game lodge is now challenging other game lodges to join in the challenge. They would like the lodges to join the DOT challenge as well as the ‘No Plastic H2O Bottles’ challenge. Both these challenges will help to make a better South Africa and will protect and preserve our natural environments.
