Tsitsikamma

A travel videographer has captured the most beautiful drone footage of the Tsitsikamma forest.

Jacques Crafford is a travel photographer and videographer, he has been sharing some amazingly breathtaking footage of places in South Africa we would never have guessed are in South Africa. Jacques showcases places that are almost too beautiful to be real.

But they are real! And they are right on our door step!

Well maybe not that close but definitely close enough to hop in a car and have an epic road trip while heading to some truly beautiful locations. Today we are sharing a video Jacques did of the Tsitsikamma which is in the Eastern Cape.

The word “Tsitsikamma” hails from the Khoekhoe language tse-tsesa, meaning “clear”, and gami, meaning “water”, probably referring to the clear water of the Tsitsikamma River. Other meanings are ‘place of much water’ and ‘waters begin’.

The Tsitsikamma National Park forms part of the greater Garden Route National Park. The area is covered by large areas of forest as well as commercial plantations and fynbos.

There are also many rivers in the area that have carved deep gorges into the mountains as they wind their way from the plateau to the sea.

The forest that surrounds is indigenous rain forest with 116 types of massive trees, including the giant Outeniqua yellowwood tree.

There is a great walk that leads to a very special yellowwood called “The Big Tree”. This wooden giant is estimated to be over 800-years old, stands 36.6m high and has a circumference of almost nine metres, it’s not called “The Big Tree” for nothing.

The drone and river footage showcase how perfect this place is for ‘adventurers’.
