This Sunday, Erin and Micaela are taking on some of Cape Town’s highest and most physically demanding peaks to raise vital funds and sanitary pad donations for Mamma Flo’s fight against period poverty.

Cape Town, South Africa (11 August 2026) – Few acts command as much respect as watching someone willingly step into a massive challenge, driven not by a guarantee of success, but by dedication to a cause greater than themselves.

On Sunday, 16 August, Erin Goodman and Micaela Gillion will tackle their own version of Cape Town’s iconic Three Peaks Challenge.

In a single day, they will conquer some of the city’s highest and most physically demanding peaks. Dubbed “Peaks for Pads”, the pair are taking on this endurance test to raise funds and collect sanitary pads for Mamma Flo, an organisation fighting period poverty.

Mamma Flo started by chance in 2020 after three friends visited Khayelitsha to hand out sanitary products. They were taken aback by the overwhelming scale of period poverty in the community. It was a crisis far bigger than anticipated and one they simply could not ignore. Today, Mamma Flo provides an agency for women’s period freedom, free period education, free period products and holistic support to empower women across South Africa.

This is the vital work Erin and Micaela are climbing to support. Because, as they put it, access to period products should never be a luxury.

“We’ll be climbing Devil’s Peak, Maclear’s Beacon, and Lion’s Head in one day. That is 30 km and over 2,000 meters of elevation (and probably a fair amount of complaining along the way!),” the pair shared.

A pack of sanitary pads costs anywhere from R15 to R110, meaning just R40 can supply someone with essential products for a month.

“That’s less than many of us spend on a morning coffee.”

Every cent raised through this campaign will go directly to Mamma Flo’s mission of making period products accessible to those who need them most. Donations will remain open until the duo completes all three peaks.

If you’d like to support Erin and Micaela’s challenge, you can leave a financial donation here or contact Mamma Flo directly to arrange a physical drop-off of sanitary pads.
