Jeane Myburgh was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer but is refusing to let it take away the life she deserves or get in the way of her degree.
Jeane Myburg received a shock when she was diagnosed with PNET Ewing Sarcoma, an aggressive cancer in her abdomen.
Jeane is a resident of Kasteel Dameskoshuis in Potchefstroom and was supposed to complete her third-year B.Com Industrial Psychology degree this year. In January, she was getting ready to head back and see her friends. She was excited to get her final year started.
Before heading back, Jeane started having swelling and pain in her abdomen and had to get it checked before she left for university. She had had an x-ray previously but nothing showed up. This time around, it was a very different story.
“I went through a sonar and an emergency operation. A malignant tumour the size of a one-litre Coke bottle and an ovary bit the dust. All I wanted to know when I woke up was, ‘When will I be good to go back to Potch – life is waiting?’’
Determined to get better despite the scary diagnosis, Jeane stayed home and started Chemo. She has been adamant that she will complete her degree. Her cancer spread and due to so many growths and lesions on her abdominal organs, the doctors could not operate on her. This means she has to fight for her life…
She has decided that is what she will do, she will fight so she can complete her degree. All through her chemo and treatments, she has worked really hard to keep up with her assignments.
‘What has sustained me thus far is the love and care of friends and family, ‘she said. ‘There is nowhere to go but forward. My heart is sore for not being able to complete my degree this year but I am fighting hard to be back in 2019.’
Jeane has been a champion for her diagnosis and will keep her head held high. Her family are busy crowdfunding to help pay for her chemo, sadly their medical aid has already been maxed out so they need to raise money for the next phase of chemo.
