Food Forest Begins to Grow in Hout Bay!

A fresh food forest is growing in Hout Bay and will soon stand proudly as a green stretch of hope for the community:

Hout Bay, South Africa (19 August 2024) — Fresh fruit trees were planted in Hout Bay recently thanks to community efforts to create a delicious food forest in the area!

With help from NPO Food and Trees for Africa, community initiative Love in a Bowl successfully planted 25 fruit trees and 25 indigenous trees as part of a wholesome mission to nourish the community, all while making the environment even greener—something well worth getting stuck into.

Love in a Bowl may be a collaborative initiative but it is also a love letter to the people of Hout Bay. Made up of everyone from NGO workers to parents, educate-centre staff to hikers as well as restauranteurs and retirees, together they are on a mission to plant and grow organic veggies throughout community farms in Hout Bay.

This in an effort to fight food insecurity for underprivileged people, all while making sure the town gets to see firsthand what happens when communities joins hands for the greater green.

The newly planted food forest is yet another example of community food sources sowing seeds of hope for South Africa—something Food & Trees for Africa are playing a huge role to achieve through various programmes.
