Frere Hospital staff kicked off Physio Week 2026 with a high-energy 2km walk, a dance session and all the vibes, showing that the best way to inspire patients toward lifelong health is by leading the active way themselves!
East London, South Africa (08 September 2026) – The staff of Frere Tertiary Hospital kicked off the week with upbeat energy and movement to participate in Physio Week 2026.
Physiotherapists joined employees from across the facility for a 2km walk, dynamic stretching, and movement activities aimed at promoting physical activity and highlighting the vital role physiotherapy plays in healthcare.
For a full hour on Monday, participants journeyed from the hospital’s B Side Casualty towards the Orthopaedic area before returning to their starting point. Along the route, members took part in stretching exercises and enjoyed spontaneous dancing, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
“This year’s Physio Week, taking place from 7–11 September 2026, aligns with World Physiotherapy Day under the theme: ‘The role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke,’” the hospital shared on its Facebook page.

At its core, the week-long initiative promotes the value of physiotherapy among staff, patients, and the broader community while at the same time emphasising how physical activity prevents chronic disease, supports recovery, and fosters lifelong health.
Having the hospital leadership and staff take the initiative to get active and prioritise their own wellness sets a powerful example of health for the very patients they treat.
Encouraging movement within the healthcare workforce sends a clear message that staying active is a vital daily practice for everyone. Throughout the week, Frere Hospital will continue to highlight the contribution of physiotherapists to patient-centred care, rehabilitation, independence and improved quality of life.
