Staff, families and volunteers came together to prepare 114 gift boxes for the Santa Shoebox Project, helping bring a little happiness to children through a simple act of kindness.

Bloemfontein, South Africa (28 October 2026) – A gift can mean so much more than what is inside the box, and the Eunice High School community is helping spread that message through its contribution to the annual Santa Shoebox Project.

This year, the school prepared 114 beautifully packed boxes, with staff members and volunteers giving their time to check, pack and fill each one with care.

The Santa Shoebox Project is a South African initiative that encourages people, schools and businesses to put together personalised gift boxes for children. Each box is intended to bring a child joy while reminding them that someone has taken the time to think of them. The initiative relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to help make the festive season special for children across the country.

The project brought together different parts of the school community, from register teachers and families who donated items to the volunteers who helped prepare the boxes. Every contribution played a part in getting the 114 gifts ready.

The school’s grounds staff also helped carry the initiative across the finish line, delivering the completed boxes to the designated drop-off point.

While packing and delivering the gifts required teamwork behind the scenes, the heart of the initiative lies in what the boxes represent kindness and the feeling of being remembered.

Taking part in the project is an opportunity to put the spirit of giving into action and show how a community can make a difference when everyone contributes in their own way.

Now a 114 boxes are ready to reach their recipients, the school has helped turn a collective effort into a festive gesture that could make a lasting impression on the children who receive them.
