As we gear up for the most anticipated Game of Thrones season EVER… we thought we would list 15 facts you may not have known about the cast and show.

The only time we will ever be excited that “Winter is Coming” is while we watch it in the new season of Game of Thrones. The Good Things Guy team (well probably just nerdy ol’me) spent the last two weekends binge watching seasons 1 to 6 to refresh and prep for season 7.

Copious amounts of extra research and reading after each episode has filled our brains to the brim with knowledge about every aspect of the show. So here are 15 facts you may not have known about the show… if you have not caught up yet, be warned this post may contain spoilers!!!

Jon Snow can sing!!!

Kit Harington took part in the Red Nose Day a few years back and as part of his skit to raise money he sang to an adaption of ‘Wild Thing’ for his wildling sweetheart Ygritte…

Jon Snow was nearly played by Ramsey Snow… Whaaaat????

When it came down to casting Jon Snow the final selection was between Kit Harington and Iwan Rheon. Luckily Kit got the role and Iwan was cast as the cruel Ramsey Bolton Snow!

Most of the cast have not read the books.

Most of the cast on the show have not read the books, fearing it would affect their acting if they knew what happens to their character. This got especially awkward for Charles Dance who played Tywin Lannister, when a fan revealed to him that he dies!

Sansa Stark adopted her Direwolf in real life!

Sophie Turner fell in love with her direwolf ‘Lady’, so she adopted her! Sophie named her Zunni and she is the first dog Sophie and her family have ever had!

After Season 1 all the Direwolves were done in CGI.

This was because as the direwolves grow over the seasons they get huge and well a normal dog just isn’t that big!

Jon Snow’s Direwolf Ghost passed away in real life!

Not a fun fact to be honest!! George RR Martin and his family supported the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary which is where the real life Ghost spent his days. So when he found out, he tweeted so we could all mourn together!

Some of the cast are from Harry Potter too!

The actress who plays Catelyn Stark, played Mrs. Granger in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Natalia Tena played as Tonks the Auror in HP and as Osha the wildling who helps care for Bran and Rickon. Walder Frey, the man behind the Red Wedding also plays the grumpy old caretaker of Hogwarts, Argus Filch.

Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall is Dumbledor’s brother in HP!!! And those are all the main cast, there are about 14 other links between the two fandoms!

Daenerys Targaryen is a Rastafarian

Just kidding!!!! But could you imagine that title????
Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons and Rastafarian Targaryen.

Emilia Clarke also took part in the Red Nose Day skits and hers was the best!

The Mountain was one of the strongest man in the world!

His real name is Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson and he is the third actor/large wordless man to play the role of the Mountain. In 2015 he came in the top 3 of the strongest men in the world. No wonder he can crush a mans skull like that!

Ned Stark’s head became a soccer ball…

Can you remember the anger you felt the moment Ned lost his head??? Well apparently the cast wasn’t too shaken by it and used Ned’s head as a soccer ball instead! Okay let’s stop that while we are ahead!

The Queen of Thorns was a Bond Girl

Dame Diana Rigg who plays Olenna Tyrell, played as a Bond Girl in ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.

Ygritte, Jon’s wildling is actually a descendant of Royalty in real life!

Rose Leslie, is a descendant of King Charles II and grew up in Lickleyhead Castle, Aberdeen, which dates back to the 16th century.

Hold the Door! Hodor is a DJ!?

Yup our faithful friend Hodor is in fact a professional DJ. He travels all over the world doing a show called ‘Rave of Thrones‘. We sobbed more than ever learning how Hodor got his name so it’s nice to see he is having some fun now!

That scene where Daenerys eats the horse heart has a funny bi-line!

Firstly, Emlia Clarke was promised that the heart would taste like jellybabies and it didn’t! She had to be sick in a bucket between filming the scene.

And afterwards she was covered in so much of the sticky fake blood that she actually got stuck to the porcelain throne toilet!

Ned Stark wasn’t really Jon Snow’s father… A Targaryen was!!!!

So if you are all caught up you will know that Bran is the new three-eyed raven and he saw his father Ned taking then baby Jon Snow from his dying sister, Lyanna Stark’s arms… Meaning that Jon isn’t Ned’s bastard at all. Making Jon cousin to all the surviving Stark kids!

But then that left the question as to who the baby daddy was? Well HBO released a really complicated infographic showing how it all worked out and we can then conclude that Rhaegar Targaryen is Jon’s father.

Making Daenerys Targaryen Jon’s aunt… Meaning Season 7 is going to be filled with new insights!

Rhaegar Targaryen is linked to Jon Snow with a black line, indicating he is Jon Snow’s parent. Ned Stark is linked to Jon with a blue line, meaning he is Jon’s guardian. Jon’s other parent line goes straight to Lyanna Stark.
