A Cappella

The Danish a cappella group ‘Baobab Sisters’ visits South Africa every year to learn stories and songs of our rainbow nation and beautifully honour the music!

 

The ‘Baobab Sisters’ is made up of eight woman from Denmark that have a love of South African music. They travel to South Africa to learn the songs of various artists and perform the a cappella style.

“One of our main goals is not only to collect South African music, but to feel and embody the music – to get a deeper understanding of the stories, the languages and the culture.”

The group has traveled to South Africa many times and now plans to record an album of all their favorite South African songs. The Baobab Sisters wants to share the beauty of our countries music with the world.

They have performed all over Denmark and any money raised they use to visit South Africa whenever they can. They have also performed for Desmond Tutu!

“Baobab Sisters is not only a vocal group. We are singers trying our best to contribute to intercultural understanding and exchange. We spend all our time and money to spread our love through music.”

This is their cover of Busi Mhlongo’s song ‘Yise wabant bami’ and it will give you chills! South Africa lost Busi Mhlongo to breast cancer in 2010. Seeing her beautiful music live on and inspired is marvelous!
