The name – MSC Poesia – is not lost on South Africans. Just like when NASA started a program called POES, and we just couldn’t deal, it’s happening again.

Johannesburg, South Africa (27 April 2022) – South Africans love a good laugh, and so it is to be expected that when a cruise ship called the MSC Poesia announces that it will be coming to our shores, we’re all having a good chuckle online.

The 3000-passenger MSC Poesia has been around for 14 years and mainly sails in Northern Europe during the summer season, but MSC cruises have just announced (and opened ticket sales) for its World Cruise, which includes stops in Durban, Gqeberha and Cape Town.

“The 121-day itinerary includes 52 unforgettable destinations across 31 countries for the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime escape not to be missed. From the Med, sail to the Red Sea through via Suez Canal, Africa South America, Caribbean, USA & Canada, before returning to Europe via Greenland and Iceland.”

Cool cruise MSC, but the name is not lost on South Africans. Just like when NASA started a program called POES, and we just couldn’t deal, it’s happening again.

Here are some of the social media comments from South Africans currently giving us the giggles:
