The viral clip shows how a simple coffee handover can become a powerful branding tool. Finding fresh ways to attract customers.

South Africa (15 July 2025) – James, if you’re reading this, your coffee order is ready to be collected before it gets cold.

In a world where your name might get misspelt on a cup, one coffee shop employee took things to a whole new level of commitment to find a customer whose order was ready to be collected.

A video from Weirdough Bakery (yes, that’s the actual name of this bakery) shows a barista on a mission. The caption? “We take keeping it hot seriously, even if Finn has to go full rom-com lead yelling your name in the rain.” And that’s exactly what happens.

So Finn enters with an apron on, coffee in his hand (which is meant for James), and clearly built for theatre. He’s got one simple goal: to get a hot cup of coffee into the hands of James. But James is nowhere to be found.

It starts like any regular order handoff: “James?” Finn calls out from behind the counter. No response. Finn then rounds the shop. Still no James. He checks the tables, the corners. Still no James.

And then, Finn goes outside. It’s raining. And like a true romantic lead in a Nicholas Sparks film, Finn stands in the drizzle, coffee in hand, shouting out: “JAAAAAMES!”

The moment is hilarious, wholesome, and extremely clever. In an age where marketing is getting slicker and more digital by the day, Weirdough Bakery found the perfect balance of authenticity and internet charm. Many businesses are hopping onto this train. No paid actors. No product placement. Just a passionate employee, a missing customer, and a video-worthy quest.

While some brands spend millions on campaigns, Weirdough Bakery just gave us a rom-com like The Notebook just to get this cup of coffee to the customer while it’s hot. And honestly? We are here for it.

Moral of the story: If you’re ever at Weirdo Bakery, do not make Finn go looking for you.
