Dušan Krtolica, a 15-year-old Serbian artist has a talent for drawing from memory and his favourite things to draw, are African animals.
Dušan Krtolica began drawing when he was only 2 years old. He could hardly hold his pen but drew because he loved it. Fast forward 13 years and the talented 15-year-old has already had 6 solo exhibitions.
His main focus is on the natural world, focussing mostly on wildlife. When he was younger, he got the chance to illustrate an encyclopedia and it is still available for purchase now. Bored Panda interviewed Dušan and he told them all about his passion.
“I love the diversity of the animal kingdom,”
“[Its] ability to adapt and change.”
“Drawing has always been a game for me.”
The first drawing he ever did was a whale. He draws a couple of hours every day and each time he does it from his memory.
“It isn’t difficult for me, I enjoy it.”
“I already have a picture of the animal that I want to draw in my head, so I don’t have to look at its [actual] picture when I’m drawing it.”
His parents noticed his talent improving and enrolled him in art school so that he could pursue his passion.
“My parents were fully engaged in other kinds of fields. With them, I started to love the books, especially those about animals and nature. Through the time, I have collected a lot of books and quite often I find inspiration for my work there. Now I know to draw a large number of animals from my mind. From the encyclopedias, I learned a lot about the world of animals.”
