Ever wondered what makes a South African mom so unique? According to a hilarious video by content creator Erve Bukasa, it’s all about their tireless complaints while cleaning and their love for their Tupperware, among other funny habits.

Cape Town, South Africa (07 August 2025) – So, among the many things that make Mzansi truly unique is its moms and the amusing habits that are distinctly their own.

Disclaimer! This is not my take, but rather the witty views of comedic content creator and podcast host, Erve Bukasa, who shared a video of all the things South African moms do.

According to Erve, there are some unwritten rules that all SA moms seem to follow.

For starters, Fridays are a no-cook zone. It seems to be a universal rule that every South African mom learns, giving them a well-deserved break at the end of the week.

“When you’re taking the course to be a South African mother, they will tell you, you must never ever cook on Fridays.”

Then there’s the Tupperware drama. You know, the moment when you’ve lost or misplaced a piece of that precious plasticware, and your mom gives you a hard time about it.

Going on random diets is another Mzansi mom character trait that Erve just couldn’t help poke fun at.

“We all know that when your mom goes on a diet, everyone goes on a diet bra. They just wake up randomly and decide to go on a diet.”

And while he’s still on the topic of food, Erve claims SA moms will make soup at any given chance.

“Especially coloured aunties. They will just see one drop of rain outside and make soup for the whole winter.”

And last but not least, you can trust the moms to complain while cleaning

“Your mom will just out of nowhere start cleaning and be like ‘yoh no one ever helps me out in this house, I’m so tired’ – like aunty I just woke up, its 8am like give me a chance to wake up,” Erve jokes.

Judging by the comments on his post, many South Africans agree with Erve’s hilarious observations, while others hilariously defended the value of their beloved Tupperware and that Fridays were indeed safe catering days in a typical SA household.

It seems that being a South African mom is a role filled with both love and a whole lot of comedy!
