“Happy birthday Eishkom. Thanks for always being there for us.”

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 March 2023) – Eishkom is celebrating its 100th birthday today, so of course, South African are sending them the funniest wishes.

We all hate loadshedding; it has been around for over 15 years in South Africa, largely due to Eskom’s ageing infrastructure, its inability to supply sufficient energy and corruption.

So far, 2023 has seen 1,415 hours of blackouts with no end to the Loadshedding in sight.

Even though the government-owned national power utility can’t seem to keep the lights on, South Africans are still sending them birthday wishes (insert eye roll). Yes, Eskom (aka Eishkom) is celebrating its 100th birthday today, having been founded on the 1st of March, 1923, through the Electricity Act of 1922.

We asked our readers to share birthday messages to Eskom and the comments have left us in stitches.

“It’s Eishkom’s 100th birthday today. We’re not joking. Please leave them a birthday message in the comments… but you cannot be RUDE. This is the Good Things Guy page, so funny comments only please. We need to laugh. Otherwise, we will all be crying.”
