Thanks to students at TERRA High School in Miami, senior citizens residing at The Palace Nursing Home had the opportunity to enjoy their prom for a second time with a special “senior” prom.
75 residents reminisced on their prom, created a new “prom” memory, enjoyed an abundance of food, and even posed for traditional prom portraits.
Nursing home staff also voted and crowned a prom king and queen!
According to the activities director at the nursing home, Debbie Horvitz, the event was unbelievable, and they had a great time. She added that the prom queen and king held hands all night during the event.
One of the attendees to the prom was 101 years old; Eleanor Bessin, who still has a photo of her original prom date in her possession.
TERRA High School principal Caridad Montano said the students came up with the idea when they were discussing their prom night.
Montano said, “The idea was heartfelt, and it was a nice gesture to give the elderly the respect they deserved.”
I could not agree more.
