Hippo Wandered

A hippo wandered onto the bowling green of St Lucia Bowling Club during their Valentines Bowls event. The members had a few jokes and a laugh but stayed safe!

The members of the St Lucia Bowling club are no strangers to spotting Hippo’s. St Lucia has the largest population of Hippo’s in the country, so they are regularly seen wandering the streets of the popular seaside town.

Hippo’s look soft and sweet but are very dangerous, the massive herbivores kill more humans than any other animal.

As soon as the hippo wandered onto the bowling green grounds, the area was cleared and the members stood under the ‘stoep’ watching and waiting for the hippo to move along.

“Fortunately all the players are streetwise regarding St Lucia’s pet hippos‚”

“The green was quickly evacuated and an orderly retreat to the club stoep was followed by a further round of drinks to calm nerves.” – David Lawson, a member of the bowling club.

The hippo got onto the grounds through a gate that someone had forgotten to close. It wandered around for about half an hour before it got bored and left.
