Collective Cadenza (cdza) created an interactive musical experiment called “The Human Jukebox” and donated the money raised to a music charity.
The Collective Cadenza creates musical video experiments featuring highly trained musical virtuoso’s from some of New York’s most prestigious music schools. The YouTube channel was started in 2012 and posts various music video’s mostly featuring classical instruments.
The Human Jukebox video was posted in August 2012 and even though the video is slightly old, the message and experiment are still pretty cool.
This cdza experiment focuses on a fun and democratic way for street musicians to receive money, by letting listeners vote by donation. The idea is interactive and as you will see in the video, the listeners have so much fun getting the choice of song and speed.
“The guys that did this are both great with string instruments and great humans faith in humanity restored” – MLGTroy1
“It warms my heart to see that Bach had the biggest amount of cash in the end lol” – Maran Nebbeling
The money raised during this experiment was donated to ‘Wingspan Arts’, a non-profit that aims to expose diverse and young groups of people to the arts. The charity offers after school programmes, music classes and camps as well as custom designed programming to every school or organization we work with.
This is a brilliant idea for buskers all over the world! The cdza ended their YouTube video creation in 2014 so there is no new material but they do have a massive playlist of video’s created around music experimentation so if you are interested in more of their content you can click here.
