Spooky, sweet and a wildlife patient’s treat! The Johannesburg Veterinary Hospital’s pumpkin carvings competition didn’t disappoint; leaving us in awe of the carved creations!

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 November 2024) — Spooky Season has officially come to an end, leaving behind another successful year for South Africans who were unafraid to let their creativity loose. While some sank creative claws into putting together costumes, others brought out their talented talons to carve pumpkins like it was nobody’s business. For one Wildlife Veterinary Hospital, pumpkin carvings didn’t just make for an epic excuse to get creative; it also made for a fantastic opportunity to gift their wildlife patients a spooky-inspired treat while raising funds for the team who care for them.

The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital decided to make the most of a task people do inevitably during Spooky Season and hosted a pumpkin carving competition to pay the effort forward.

And boy, the efforts did not disappoint!

From Scary SpongeBob to a paw-printed pumpkin, a Hogwarts-inspired ‘kin and the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital’s Dassie-approved owl creation; people pulled out all the stops.

While there could only be one winner (and a strong top-3), everyone who participated made a difference to the service the Wildlife Veterinary Hospital provides thanks to their entry-donations and of course, treats for the wildlife patients.

And a special shout out to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital’s Wendy Willson who carved this beauty!
