You choose your mood. That’s a lesson we can all learn from Nelson Mandela Bay’s most famous traffic cop!

Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa (06 January 2026) – The only cop that matters is back. That’s what people have dubbed him. We’ve written about Officer Richmond Menzi many times already. Not because we’re secretly running a fan club (perhaps we are), but because South Africans love him.

He spreads positivity and light in one of the most hostile spaces – traffic!

Think about it. You’ve just flipped off a tannie or a taxi driver. A series of expressive profanities later you arrive at the next robot ready to FIGHT. Instead, you’re greeted by this.

He doesn’t just direct traffic, he lessens the load of everyone stuck in it. Everyone zooms off reminded that positivity is a choice and that South Africans bring all the best vibes. We choose kindness, we spread light, and we dance, even in traffic.

Everyone’s famous traffic cop was recently spotted at Summerstrand in Nelson Mandela Bay. Facebook user Putco Mafani shared the video, which has already amassed over 200,000 views.

The comments reflect how commuters consider him a national treasure:

“Love him because he makes people smile!”

“Owuuuuu I love him always fresh This one is stress free”

“He’s been doing it for years across the Bay. Deserves an award”

“He will never die of stress.”

“Malume his the best to boost my energy!”
