Known for their warm smiles and helpful hearts, South Africa’s petrol attendants are showing that playtime can happen anywhere.
South Africa (12 September 2025) – It’s not every day you see a rugby match break out at a petrol station. But in this heartwarming clip shared by a mom on Facebook, attendants at a local station spontaneously turned the forecourt into a playground for kids. Showing why they are considered some of the friendliest people in South Africa.
As parents topped up their tanks, we see these attendants with a ball and joining in, letting kids run, pass, and score tries. The song of choice was incredible. As they pass the ball amongst each other, the classic tune Sister Bethina is playing in the backdrop. A song often called South Africa’s unofficial national anthem, it made the moment feel even more celebratory.
Forget professional skills or big crowds. It’s about joy and the simple magic of people going out of their way to make someone’s day a little brighter.
No trophies, just a couple of attendants and some kids turning a petrol station into a mini rugby field. Fun can pop up in the most ordinary places!
