Netherlands, Holland (03 September 2020) – South Africans have talent that is undeniable and after sharing Belinda Davids Britain’s Got Talent success yesterday, a reader reached out to tell us about Darren Gardner. Darren recently had a successful audition on Holland’s Got Talent!
Darren Gardner is a singer-songwriter classically trained in Rnb, Soul and Pop roots. He was born in Port Elizabeth and has always had a love of music. Growing up he would raid his mother’s collection and has a deep love of TLC, Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill and Celine Dion.
He started singing at age 6 and it has been a passion ever since! Darren joined the school choir at age 9. Music was always a part of his life and in high school, joined an all-boys acapella group called Indomitus. He then went on to study Classical vocals at the University of Pretoria with a focus on Music Production and Sound Engineering.
He met his partner Elsa Luttikhuizen after finishing university and the two had a long-distance relationship for a time. Unable to be apart any longer, Darren moved to the Netherlands in 2016 where he has lived since.
Darren met producer, multi-instrumentalist and song-writer Stanley Clementina during a performance at the Music Matters Competition back in 2016 and the two have been working together ever since. He released his first single, “Stutter” early in 2018 and under the management of Stanley, Darren has worked with the likes of ZO Gospel Choir, Berget Lewis, Martin Garrix, Mike Yung and Grammy award-winning producer Chris Henderson.
To push his career to the next level, Darren signed up for Holland’s Got Talent and got invited to audition. We are not quite sure how the other judges felt as they were speaking Dutch but he got four yes votes and nailed his audition for the show! Take a look at his performance below.
